"Fifty Photographic Views Of The Fall River Line"

$ 50.00

Full title is: "Fifty Photographic Views Of The Steamers Of The Fall River Line, Their Terminals And Their Route Through East River, Long Island Sound, And Narragansett Bay"

The Fall River Line was a combination steamboat and railroad connection between New York City and Boston that operated between 1847 and 1937. It consisted of a railroad journey between Boston and Fall River, Massachusetts, where passengers would then board steamboats for the journey through Narragansett Bay and Long Island Sound to the line's own Hudson River dock in Manhattan. For many years, it was the preferred route to take for travel between the two major cities. The line was extremely popular, and its steamboats were some of the most advanced and luxurious of their day.

This view book contains 50 halftone images of the famous steamers and their lavish interiors. Most of the photos focus on the 5 steamers servicing the Fall River route. There are inside views as well as external (including Galley views). The images include: Steamer Priscilla, Steamer Puritan, Steamer Plymouth, Steamer Pilgrim, Steamer Providence; Terminals, New York City, Piers 18 and 19, North River; Battery,Statue of Liberty / Castle William, New York Bay; Brooklyn Bridge; East River / Brooklyn Navy Yard; Work house, Blackwell's Island; Ward's Island, Sugar Refineries; Fort Schuyler, Long Island Sound / David Island, Long Island Sound; Fall River Line wharves, Newport, R. I. / Goat Island, Newport Harbor; Newport Harbor view; and Steamer Pilgrim, Fall River / Steamboat Train at Fall River Wharf.

The book features a decorative stiff card cover with orange and green floral border, with what is assumed to be the original blue silk tie. Embossed title printed in green on front cover.
